Confirmed. KSS professors Dr. Oliver and Dr. Furtado will be leading a study abroad program in England in May. Eleven students have signed up for the program. With a two-week residence on the quaint and friendly University of Winchester campus, students will study the most significant components of the UK sport industry, including soccer (futbol), rugby, cricket, and tennis. On-campus study will be complemented by guest presentations by Sports Studies faculty at the University of Winchester and field trips to some of London's most well-known sport venues, including Wimbledon Lawn Museum, World Rugby Museum, and Chelsea Futbol Club Stadium.
Young Athletes Is Back! We are looking for highly motivated students to volunteer over a 10 week period (excluding Spring Break) in an after school program for kids with special disabilities and ages 2-7 years old.
This program "Young Athletes" is sponsored by Special Olympics and provides a great opportunity to connect with the up and coming Special Olympics athletes in our area. This after school program meets every Tuesday evening. Volunteers will help kids through various exercises which will teach the kids about sports, team sharing and communication skills. This is a HIGHLY rewarding experience! Are you free Tuesdays from 3:00pm-5pm? If yes, email our office for more information on how to become involved! Help impact the kids in our community! We are seeking qualified students to be peer leaders for University Foundations in Fall 2012. Students must have 60 hours completed by August 2012, have at least a 3.0 gpa, and be involved on campus. They will be paired with an instructor for University Foundations, our freshman seminar course.
Interested students must complete an application and turn in 2 letters of recommendation by March 8, 2012. Interviews will be conducted after spring break. Application materials are on the University Foundations web site at http://castle.eiu.edu/~eiu1111/ Students who have not been peer leaders before should complete the Peer Leader Applications—New Students.
